- Decimal classification, 5th edition.
Universal classification system developed in Denmark and used
in the Danish national bibliography, and in Danish public libraries
and school libraries. Each publication is given one or more classification
mark. A classification mark in DK5 is a decimal figure.
- Dublin Core
- A range of descriptive elements making it easy to
construct a
Element Set description of the content and copyright of HTML
publications. The aim is to qualify searches on the Internet.
Dublin Core is often abbreviated to DC.

- Dynamic publication
- An Internet publication regarded as likely
to change over time. There may be changes in content, and information may be added and/or
deleted. Bibliographic details such as the title and copyright
information may also change. Databases and homepages are examples
of dynamic publications.

- Graphics Interchange Format.
Format used to compress and save graphics.
- HTML
- Hypertext Markup Language.
Formating language used on the Web to enable different computers
to communicate with each other.
HTML also makes it possible to establish a connection between
different locations on the Internet (so-called hyperlinks).
- ISBD
- International Standard Bibliographic Description.
International set of rules for the bibliographic description
of documents.
- ISBN
- International Standard Book Number.
10-digit number which clearly identifies a book or version of
a book in printed or electronic form.
- MARC format
- MAchine Readable Cataloguing format.
International format for structuring bibliographic items with
a view to exchanging catalogue data in machine-readable form.
- Metadata
- Data about data.
This concept is now generally used about data used to identify,
describe and localise Internet publications.
- OCLC
- Online Computer Library Center.
The USA's largest collective cataloguing network. Also used by
European libraries.
- PURL
- Persistent Uniform Resource Locator.
The PURL server connects the PURL with the actual URL
and sends this URL back to the browser, which then performs addressing
in standard fashion.
- Static publication
- Internet publication not regarded as likely
to change over time. In other words, it will not change its contents, title or
copyright during the time it is accessible on the net. Monographic works
which are currently available in physical form (books, diskettes etc.)
are examples of static publications.
